THEY COULDN'T STAND - PART ONE
Several sideshow performers were born with the same or similar condition that caused their legs to develop poorly or improperly to such an extent that they couldn't stand.  So you will often see them sitting or held in the arms of another. This first group all have small, almost useless legs, a roundish belly and long fingers.

LAVONDA EVANS was 24" tall and married 4' tall Alva Evans around 1950.  The little couple were happily expecting their first child but it was born prematurely and died of respiratory trouble.

PETE MOORE was billed as the "World's Smallest Man".  Pete was from a large family and was smart as a whip.  He met his wife Adena at an Ohio fair. They were later married and had 2 kids - Johnny and Carol.  I like Pete's photos because, like Sealo, he always appears in an upbeat mood.

BARBARA BENNETT was known as the "World's Smallest Mother".  She joined the Hall & Christ show in 1977. She was married and had 4 kids. Randal Levenson has some great pics of her in the book "In Search of the Monkey Girl".

MAJOR CHARLES GANTZ was born in1867.  Like Pete he also came from a large family.  Major Gantz was a successful businessman in addition to his ventures in the show business world. Despite searching in earnest for a wife, he never married and died in California in 1932.

FLIP, THE FROG BOY worked with varous circuses in 1936 and '37.   I've always noticed somethig peculiar about his face, like he's wearing make-up.

CARL NORWOOD was billed as the "Frog Boy".  He worked as a single-O for Ward Hall after the death of his show business partner Dick Hilburn.

Johnny Eck had a pet chihuahua also.

I've heard and read that Johnny Eck actually had useless legs that he knotted beneath him. His barrel chest and long fingers tends to support this contention.
