MADAM SQUIRES

It is not quite clear what is going on here.  Was "Madam Squires" an actor who could play female roles? Or was he one of the first crossdressers who then grew a beard and became a "bearded lady"? Rob't Bogdan in his book "Freak Show" quotes from her publicity pamphlet that she was married and the mother of three, but of course these booklets are not always to be trusted as to their veracity.
