RICHARD  LATTER
"The beard of Mr. Latter, the London bird fancier, is now the longest beard known, being twelve and one-half feet in length.  He wears it braided and wound around his neck and at a distance is often mistaken for a snake charmer." - 1895
"Richard Latter (1831 - 1914) of Tunbridge Wells, England, reputedly had a beard 18 feet long, but contemporary independent corroboratiion is lacking.  Photographic evidence indicates that this figure was exaggerated. (See above) - Guiness Book of World Records, 1973
